Jean-Claude Gautrand

Photographe, journaliste, historien de la photo, Jean-Claude Gautrand est né en 1932.
Son parcours est un condensé de l'histoire de la photographie depuis les années 50 : très influencé par la photographie subjective, il s'initie à la technique photographique au Photo Club des PTT où il travaille. Il crée le groupe Gamma avec deux autres photographes puis le groupe "Libre Expression" avec notamment Jean Dieuzaide afin de promouvoir une photographie moderne et avant-gardiste, adhère au Club des 30x40, pose avec Lucien Clergue les fondations des Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie d'Arles...

"Métalopolis", "l'assassinat de Baltard", "Forteresses du dérisoire", "Bercy" ou "le galet" font partie des travaux les plus célèbres d'une oeuvre très graphique, marquée par l'audace et la rigueur.

Born in 1932, Jean-Claude Gautrand is a photographer, journalist and photographic historian.
His career is in itself a shortened history of photography since the 1950s. He was greatly influenced by subjective photography. He learnt photography at the Post and Telecommunications Photo Club where he was working. He created the Gamma group with two other photographers and later the “Free expression” group with Jean Dieuzaide which aimed to promote modern and avant-garde photography, was member of the 30x40 Club, and help found with Lucien Clergue the International Photographic Festival in Arles (Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie d'Arles...).

"Métalopolis", "The Assassination of Baltard", " Derisory Castles", "Bercy" or “the pebble" are amongst his most famous graphic works marked by daring and rigour.
